You can help us keep your items safe by following these easy storage arrangement tips:
- Big items come first
We assume that you will rarely use these items, so it is better to store your bigger boxes at the back of the storage unit and arrange the smaller ones at the front for ease of access. - Stack the heaviest boxes on the bottom
Keeping all your items safe requires a solid stacking strategy. Always place the heaviest boxes at the bottom of your stacks. This will prevent damage to delicate items and ensure that your boxes remain sturdy. - Sort boxes by utility, size or frequency of use
Grouping items based on utility, such as sports equipment, living room items, or by most frequently used items, will make it much easier to find what you need quickly. - Fill in hollow spaces
Make use of hollow spaces if you store things like cabinets, kitchen wares or washing machines. You can place small boxes in these spaces and maximise the use of space in your storage unit. - Slightly open appliance doors
Cracking open the doors on your appliances inside the unit will prevent the growth of mildew, mould and foul odours. - Plan for access and walkway between boxes
Keep in mind the items and boxes that you will need access to most often and organise your storage unit accordingly. Store these items in a more accessible position closer to the front of the unit, and create a walkway between your items to ensure that you can access any box that you need. These strategies are effective and far more efficient than pulling out boxes every time you visit the unit. - Use charcoal as a dehumidifier
Charcoal briquettes are an effective way to absorb moisture and prevent odour. All you need to use charcoal as a dehumidifier in your storage unit is to place some briquettes into a can, make some holes in the lid of the can, and place them in humid corners of the unit. Make sure that you replace the charcoal every few months. - Avoid condensation build-up on your vehicle
When you store a vehicle with gasoline, you can either fill full or empty the petrol tank to avoid the build-up of condensation. - Remove batteries from electronics
This will help your electronics last longer, and ensure that their batteries are stored in a dry, safe place. - Make a record of your inventory
Make a list of all the items you have stored, including its description, item category, position in the storage unit and date of storage. You can also draw a map of your storage unit showing the position of all your possessions. This will help you to easily locate and retrieve the items that you need.
